A small site holding the personal projects I’ve done in my spare time. Most revolve around my interest in Soccer and Baseball Analytics.

Project 1 - Home Plate Umpire Bias in the MLB

Human umpires are tasked with the important yet extremely difficult task in deciding whether the hardest thrown and nastiest pitches in the world are strikes or not. With motion technology, TV audiences are now shown the actual path of a pitch on close calls, ousting human home plate umpires as inconsistent and faulty in their judgements. This project seeks to take advantage of this pitch-tracking in the aggregate, in search of consistent biases MLB Umpires have in their strike calling.

Project 2 - Performance Impact of Wage Inequality within Soccer Clubs

The size of a team’s wage bill obviously has a great impact on how well a team performs. If a team can afford to pay the best players, they will, and will enjoy success in their domestic league. This project will look into to what extent wage bills affect domestic performance, and whether wage inequality within clubs positively or negatively affects team performance.
